Solutions to Common Computer Problems

There are common issues that you might face on your computer once in a while. Some people will immediately think of sending it to the repair shop without solving it themselves.

We are here to help you. Here are 3 common computer problems and DIY solutions for you to try before sending it for repairment:

Slow PC

  • Disable Startup Programs

To disable autostart program, open "Task Manager" by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting "Task Manager" or press Ctrl + Shift + Escape and launch it. Click over to the Startup tab and disable startup applications that are unnecessary.

  • Disk Cleanup

It is recommended to do a disk cleanup on your PC at least once a month as it removes temporary and unnecessary files on your hard drive.

Right-click on your "C:" Drive and select Properties

On the General tab, you can see the Disk Cleanup option beside the Capacity chart.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD)

  • Ensure that there is enough free space on your primary disk.

It is recommended by Microsoft to have at least 100MB of free space else data corruption or BSoD can occur.

  • Update all of your drivers

Most of the time, BSoD is driver or hardware related so ensure that your hardware drivers are all up-to-date.

  • Scan for viruses

Use anti-virus software to scan, detect and remove any viruses that may be causing this issue.

  • Remove recently installed files or programs

If the BSoD only occurs after downloading a specific program or file, there is a high chance that the program or file is corrupted and you need to delete it.

Noisy Hard Disk

  • Ensure that the sound is coming from the hard disk

Try to unplug the power and data cables from the hard drive and if you still hear the noise when you boot up the computer, the hard drive is not the problem.

  • Run a hard drive diagnostic software

Running a hard drive diagnostic software allows you to determine the condition of your hard disk and tries to resolve the issues.

  • Replace the hard disk

The final solution for all noisy hard disks is to replace them. Back up all your files and replace the old hard disk with a new one.
